LATEST ISSUE: POW! Marvel Comics adds in a superhero with T1D, and now there’s a Mattel Barbie doll with the condition too!

Well, this is a rather fun edition to see you through the rest of the summer. We’ve got a new comic character from Marvel on the cover, and

So, a slightly American theme as they are both big American brands. Interestingly they are both noticeably female, and it just so happens that there are two real-life T1D ladies included in this issue. Vanessa Haydock, who we’ve interviewed before about her diabetes kit, gives us her top tips for attending festivals. Personally, I’ve never really felt the need, but that’s possibly because I didn’t have the enthusiasm (I’m not that young anymore!) to sort out everything I’d need to take in order to take care of myself. My cousin, who is slightly younger than myself but who also has T1D is a veteran of more than one ‘Glasto’ attendance. Festive summer vibes is on p.18.

Meanwhile, Megan Neville briefly shares her story and how her diabetes featured as part of her final project for her degree in needlework. No, I didn’t know you could do a degree in needlework, but I do now! See all sewn up on p.22.

We have a fairly big food section in this issue, from some summer sips, to our Making Carbs Count rounds up this issue about honey, bees and one small companies attempt to stop ‘fake’ honey being sold by supermarkets. Yes, honey is super-sweet and generally not part of the plan for most people with diabetes, but it’s roundly understood to be relatively good for us, as far as sweet things go, and you needn’t have a lot. I know folk that keep a jar handy and have a spoonful if they are starting to to low.

I hope you enjoy this issue and that you have a good summer. We are back at the en of September with our next issue. – Sue Marshall, Editor
