The Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust has launched a free patient booklet; Type 2 – Management and Medication which has been produced to support patients who may be struggling to understand and manage their diabetes.
Many patients only see their specialists on an annual basis, so they are left on their own to control their blood-sugar levels, maintain a healthy weight and cope with their medication. Type 2 Diabetes – Management and Medication has been produced to help these patients better understand the treatments available and the on-going management of their diabetes. The aim is to help them understand and reduce the risks of developing long-term complications.
The booklet explains about the likely progression of the condition and the fact that patients once diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes within 7 years (on average) need treatment with insulin. We explain how the insulins work from long to short-acting and the different ways of administering insulin, from pens to insulin pumps. The booklet also explains the different types of treatment and the ways in which different types of medication work, such as tablets and/or insulin.
Copies of the booklet can be obtained directly from IDDT either by ‘phone: 01604 622837 or enquiries@iddtinternational.org
